             abstract = "O presente trabalho teve como principal objetivo analisar as 
                         mudan{\c{c}}as na distribui{\c{c}}{\~a}o espacial do uso e 
                         cobertura da terra do munic{\'{\i}}pio de Garanhuns-PE e 
                         quantificar as classes que foram definidas durante a an{\'a}lise, 
                         com a utiliza{\c{c}}{\~a}o de t{\'e}cnicas de geoprocessamento. 
                         O estudo se utilizou de dados provenientes do sensor OLI do 
                         sat{\'e}lite Landsat 8, adquiridos no site Earth Explorer da 
                         USGS, e processados no software ArcGis 10.4 para a 
                         realiza{\c{c}}{\~a}o do mapeamento. Os resultados obtidos 
                         mostraram uma diferencia{\c{c}}{\~a}o pequena nas classes de 
                         Lavoura Permanente, {\'A}rea Urbanizada e Corpos d{\'a}gua 
                         Continental, entretanto houveram mudan{\c{c}}as 
                         consider{\'a}veis nas classes Florestal, {\'A}rea Descoberta e 
                         Pastagem. As conclus{\~o}es levam ao entendimento que as novas 
                         atividades econ{\^o}micas na {\'a}rea auxiliaram a configurar 
                         uma nova forma da apropria{\c{c}}{\~a}o do espa{\c{c}}o do 
                         munic{\'{\i}}pio de Garanhuns-PE. ABSTRACT: The main objective 
                         of this work was to analyze the changes in the spatial 
                         distribution of land use and coverage of the municipality of 
                         Garanhuns-PE and to quantify the classes that were defined during 
                         the analysis, using geoprocessing techniques. The study used data 
                         from the OLI sensor of the Landsat 8 satellite, purchased from the 
                         USGS Earth Explorer site, and processed in the ArcGis 10.4 
                         software to perform the mapping. The results obtained showed a 
                         small differentiation in the classes of Permanent Farming, 
                         Urbanized Area and Continental Water Bodies, although there were 
                         considerable changes in the Forest, Discovered area and Pasture. 
                         The conclusions lead to the understanding that the new economic 
                         activities in the area helped to configure a new form of 
                         appropriation of the space of the municipality of Garanhuns-PE.",
